Eason locked in

EMERSON, Ga. - Since committing to Georgia last summer, five-star quarterback and the nation's No. 1 overall player, Jacob Eason, has done his best to help the Dawgs' coaching staff add talent. He's worked the phones, exchanged text messages, tweeted and even snapchatted, but he admits that none of that is as good as face-to-face time on the field.

On Saturday at the Flight School Quarterback event near Atlanta, Eason not only got to compete with some of the top quarterbacks in the country, but also got some important face time with a major target, Rivals250 wide receiver and current South Carolina commitment Kyle Davis.
"It was nice," said Eason, who made the trip to Atlanta from his home in Washington state. "He's one of those guys that I can show off my whole arm with. I can just throw it up there and know that he can go get or run under it. It's nice to be out here with a real SEC receiver."
Davis showed up at the event decked out in red and black and was also sporting a pair of Georgia Bulldog-themed gloves. He remains committed to the Gamecocks but is very much exploring his options, including a potential pairing with Eason at the next level.
"It was pretty good being out here on the field with Jacob," Davis said. "When I saw his highlight tape I thought he was good, but I wanted to come out here and see for myself. I can tell you that the hype is for real. He's phenomenal."
Both Eason and Davis said recruiting talk was at a minimum Saturday. Instead, the pair was focused on building a friendship and on-field bond.
"That's an important thing for me because if I'm going to play with these guys in the future, or help our coaches recruit them, we have to have a good relationship," Eason said. "It was nice to work on that friendship aspect and just be out here having some fun, not even talking about recruiting but just enjoying being on the field together."
Davis has said he's putting a premium on building a relationship with his potential future quarterbacks at all the schools he's considering, including Georgia and Eason.
"It's very important because if you don't have chemistry with your quarterback things will fall apart quickly," Davis said. "I have been texting with Jacob for a while. [South Carolina quarterback commit] Brandon McIlwain and I text every now and then. He checks up on me, I check up on him, and that's pretty much it. We haven't been in the same place at the same time. Hopefully we can change that soon."
After the Flight School event wraps up on Sunday, Eason is headed to Athens for a three-day visit on campus, the first since committing to Georgia last summer. Davis won't be around as he heads off to Florida for his spring break, but Eason made it clear the two will be in contact.
"We're going to keep in touch," Eason said. "I'm still going to be on him. He was wearing a lot of Georgia gear today and I noticed and commented on that so hopefully he's thinking about."
Based on Eason's recruiting efforts since committing - he played a role in Rivals100 offensive linemen Ben Cleveland and E.J. Price choosing the Dawgs - Davis is likely to feel the pressure from Eason to join the fold. According to Davis, he will just be another voice making a pitch.
"I get pressure from everywhere," Davis said. "It's ridiculous. I get people wanting me to go everywhere. It's a very stressful process, it's fun, but it's stressful."
Davis may find it stressful, but it's clear he's enjoying himself and won't close the door on any opportunities until he officially signs on the dotted line.
"I'm going to take all five of my official visits before I make that final decision," Davis said "I'm going to have fun."
