Earnest Brown not being swayed from Northwestern commitment

Three-star defensive end Earnest Brown has a full plate with some recently added responsibility on his high school team at Denton-Ryan. He’s also working on downing a couple more full plates at dinner between now and when he joins Northwestern, where he’s been committed since March.

“They want me on the outside and get a little bigger; about like 275 pounds,” he said. “They really need to use my quickness and my strength, and they like how quick I get off the ball.”

Brown says he’s currently at around 240 pounds, but between what the Wildcats coaches envision for him, and his work at multiple positions along the defensive line for Ryan, he’ll be heading back for seconds and thirds a lot more often.

His presence up front is all the more crucial following Javaris Steward’s dismissal from the team last week.

In the meantime, Brown says that the connection between him and the staff at Northwestern remains strong, and he plans on taking his official visit in January.

“It’s going real good,” he said. “We talk, I keep in contact with Coach (Marty) Long, Coach (Pat Fitzgerald) and we really have a great relationship.”

As this season approaches its halfway point, Brown said that Houston, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Texas have all been feeling out his potential to flip, but he said hasn’t changed his attitude towards his commitment.

“I’m sticking with Northwestern,” he said.

He’ll certainly get the full experience on that planned official, but first is trying to make it to town this weekend for Northwestern’s game against the Huskers.

His expectation for that experience is pretty simple.

“I’m just looking to continue having some good communication and for Northwestern to get the win.”
