RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Sean Dollars continues to load up on major offers including many this week but he said Saturday night at Ground Zero Media Day that Washington remains a top contender.

Mainly because of one reason: Coach Chris Petersen.

“Washington is really standing out a lot because of coach Petersen,” Dollars said. “He really texts me every day just to make sure I’m good and to make sure I’m taking care of my school.

“I talk to (running backs) coach (Keith Bhonapha) all the time and I have a good relationship with him.”

The Huskies certainly had success in the backfield this season as Myles Gaskin rushed for 1,380 yards and 21 touchdowns and Dollars thinks he could be utilized in a similar way.

“With how they use their running backs, it’s appealing to me,” Dollars said. “I’m basically the same style as Myles Gaskin. I’m trying to get bigger but the way they use everybody, they don’t just use big guys, they know how to utilize everybody.”

In recent days, Florida State offered the 2019 four-star running back who transferred from Rancho Cucamonga to Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei.

Dollars has developed a good relationship with FSU position coach Donte Pimpleton from his time at Oregon.

“The big thing with Florida State is coach Donte Pimpleton,” Dollars said. “When he switched schools to Florida State I thought he’d stop messing with me but he really cared about me genuinely and right when he went to Florida State he said he wanted to offer me and that meant a lot to me.

“I like that school a lot. Coach Willie Taggart always has the best staff and they always have the best players. I can compete at the top of my game over there and I’m not scared of competition, that’s not a big thing to me.”

Locally, USC has emerged as a top contender even though the Trojans haven’t offered yet. Dollars is close with Trojans running back Stephen Carr, who gives him the inside word on the program, and that’s been helpful.

“USC is really standing out to me because it’s the home school, right in my backyard and I like how they utilize their players also,” Dollars said. “I want to see what running backs coach they bring in.

“I talk to Stephen Carr a lot and he tells me a lot about USC and how the program works. He told me a lot about coach Deland (McCullough) but he’s gone now.”

So far, Arizona State, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Oregon, TCU, UCLA, Utah, Washington and Washington State have offered. Cal continues to show the most interest.
