Early offers bringing plenty of interest for Lewis

Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga seems to have a plethora of young talent. Marcus Lewis is one of those young stars. The standout defensive back has three offers and is drawing plenty of interest.
"I had a great summer," said the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Lewis. "I have three offers and a lot of interest. Clemson was my first offer. Then came Temple and Maryland.

"It meant a lot to get that Clemson offer," he said. "They're a great team and are a great school when it comes to academics. Coach Reed is actually from this area so we have a lot in common. It was great talking to Coach Swinney. He wanted me to come down this summer but we couldn't work it out. I'll get down there after the season.
"I really like Temple," Lewis said. "The coaches up there are great. One of the coaches came down in the spring to see one of our workouts and he wanted me to come up to camp. While I was there Coach Rhule watched me and offered me after camp. It felt great to get another one.
"It definitely felt great getting an offer from Maryland, especially because if came from Coach Edsall," he said. "I was there for a passing camp and Coach Edsall was watching me there. We talked afterwards and he invited me to bring my mom up to campus the following week. We took a tour and talked to him in his office and he offered me."
Early offers like these always attract other schools.
"I'm hearing from Virginia Tech, Michigan, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami, Iowa, Rutgers and others," said Lewis. "I was supposed to get an offer from Virginia Tech at their camp at few weekends ago but I couldn't make it. They wanted to see me in person. Even though I didn't get one then I think they'll still offer soon."
There is always a premium put on big cornerbacks and, at 6-foot-2, Lewis knows how his skills could be maximized.
"I kind of see myself playing in a system that plays a lot of man coverage," he said. "I've very physical so I can come up in run support also."
Camp for Gonzaga starts up at the beginning of August so Lewis is done with visits for now.
