After moving to the United States less then a decade ago, Marcel Joly has found his place on the football field. The 2014 defensive back from Forestville, Md. has picked up one early offer and is eager to add to his total.
"This is only my fifth year playing football," said the defensive back from Forestville (Md.) Forestville High. "I wasn't born here. I was born in Haiti and grew up following the Oregon Ducks."
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Joly has an offer from Vanderbilt right now and there are signs that more offers are on the horizon.
"I talk to Maryland a lot and same with Temple," he said. "Schools like Duke, Temple, Miami, Rutgers and Howard have come to my school. There are more, I just can't remember more right now."
There are two schools that Joly hopes to receive an offer from at some point of his recruiting process.
"Maryland said they were going to offer me, but they say the process is going a little slow and are waiting on the coach," said Joly. "I'm hoping for offers from Maryland and Virginia Tech but I think I'm going to have to wait until my junior year for that one."
Joly, who played strong safety last season, knows what he is looking for in his future program.
"I check the background of the school," Joly said. "Education comes first so I look at how they are at that and then I look at the football part."
He also knows that in order to add to his offer today, he will need to continue his daily grind.
"The Vanderbilt offer made me feel really good, but I need to put more work in if I want to see more offers come my way," said Joly
