Early interest for Florida defender

Dunnellon (Fla.) linebacker/safety Lerentee McCray could be one of the more highly-recruited prospects for the Class of 2008 in the Sunshine State. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder is claiming several verbal scholarship offers and has interest in multiple programs.
"Right now, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Kentucky and West Virginia all have offered (verbally)," McCray said. "I'm interested in South Carolina and West Virginia the most right now."

Florida, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Arkansas, Southern Mississippi and South Florida also are teams that could end up being factors with McCray, who could fit in at a number of positions in college.
McCray visited Gainesville for Florida's Junior Day this past weekend.
"It went well," he said.
There are a number of positions the versatile athlete, who has been timed as fast as 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, can play.
"Most coaches say "Sam" linebacker or strong safety, maybe even "Will" linebacker," McCray said.
Dunnellon, which is coached by Frank Beasley has sent players to Southeastern Conference programs during the last two recruiting cycles. In the Class of 2006, defensive end Darrell Roseman signed with Auburn. This year, running back Juwan Franklin signed with Arkansas.
