Kanya Bell is a local kid so an early offer from UCLA is a big deal for the 2015 cornerback from Diamond Bar, Calif.
The 6-foot, 160-pound prospect said last week at the Army National Combine in San Antonio that he is a friend of UCLA freshman Randall Goforth since Bell played at Long Beach Poly in his freshman season and the Bruins carry a lot of weight at this point.
UCLA is an early favorite for Bell, who transferred to Diamond Bar for his sophomore season and has continued to pick up recruiting interest.
"They've been recruiting me," Bell said. "I talked to the head coach and the corner coach and they just said they want me to wear blue and yellow and become a Bruin. They said they want me to really think about the offer they gave me.
"I like their program a lot. I like their coaches up there. I have a couple people I know, guys I grew up with, that go there so I've been thinking about it."
It's early in his recruitment so Bell, who attended the Army combine with Diamond Bar teammate Cordell Broadus, the son of Snoop Dogg who also has an early UCLA offer, doesn't want to make any quick decisions.
There is some interest also coming in from USC, West Virginia, Oregon and Clemson so Bell said he wants to wait a while longer to see what else happens in recruiting.
UCLA does look good early on, though, since the coaches there jumped out with an early offer and Bell has some friends who are already on the team.
"They're a favorite," Bell said.
On offense this past season, Bell finished with 45 receptions for 755 yards and eight touchdowns.
