Duke, Toledo, Pitt for TE

Tight end Lucas Cox is garnered lots of attention this recruiting season and four schools have offered scholarships. Two leaders have emerged with a third looming.
The 6-foot-4, 242-pound tight end from Springdale, Pa. runs the 40-yard dash in 4.8 seconds and has the ability to play defensive end. His greatest asset is his strength, and schools are interested in his versatility.

"I have offers from Duke, Akron, Bowling Green and Toledo," said Cox. "My favorites are Duke and Toledo at this point, and Pitt would be my third choice. If they offered they would move up on my list, but just because they haven't I have to say they're third."
Cox feels it's more important how comfortable he is at a school than what position he plays.
"Duke is coming after me really hard, and they're the one school that wants me as a defensive end. I would prefer to play tight end in college, but if I'm convinced Duke is the place for me then I'll play defense. Duke and Toledo have really stayed high on my list because their recruiters have been really personable. Dennis Winston from Toledo is a great guy."
Cox has camped at Kent State, Purdue, Pittsburgh and Akron, and plans on visiting Duke on August 3rd and 4th. What will be the biggest factors in his decision?
"Location isn't going to be a factor at all. I won't think about that when I make a decision. I'm concerned about education first and foremost, and where I'll have the best chance to succeed in the classroom.
"And honestly I'd like to play before too late in my college career. I play tight end, defensive end, defensive tackle and outside linebacker, so I could play a number of positions. I feel like I could get on the field somehow."
As a junior, Cox caught only six passes, but four of them were for touchdowns. He's in no hurry to decide.
"I probably won't make a decision until after my senior season."
