Duke lands Detroit LB Dorian Mausi

Duke has shown an increasing ability to recruit nationally under head coach David Cutcliffe, and that trend continued on Aug. 8 with the Blue Devils landing their 11th commitment in the 2020 class from the seventh different state. Detroit (Mich.) U-D Jesuit three-star linebacker Dorian Mausi is newest addition to Duke's 2020 class.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a slow start to the recruiting process, Mausi saw his recruitment gain steam right at the end of the Spring Evaluation Period, and that momentum carried into June when he landed five offers in the first six days of the month. Before June was out, Mausi had determined a top four that consisted of Colorado State, Duke, Indiana and Michigan State. He made a pair of visits to Duke leading up to the Blue Devils’ offer on May 24. With his senior season fast-approaching, Mausi came to the conclusion his future was in Durham.

IN HIS WORDS

“You can clearly see from the school I go to that academics is a top priority, and Duke is one of the top universities in the country. The football is really making a turn for the better there. Then, the bonds I have made with their staff and what I have learned has really made an impact.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Mausi is the second Midwest prospect to commit to Duke in the 2020 cycle, joining Ohio athlete Ethan Wright. Like Northwestern and Stanford, Duke’s academic reputation allows it to compete nationwide for prospects like Mausi who are academically, as well as athletically, motivated. At 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, Mausi has prototypical linebacker size and he could play inside or outside depending on the scheme. The three-star prospect has a high ceiling, and could see his stock and rating rise with a strong senior campaign this fall.
