College football season is upon us, and here comes the flips.
Bryce Davis, the No. 53 overall player in the Rivals250 for the 2025 recruiting cycle out of Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley High School, has had a change of heart a month and change after declaring for Clemson.
The four-star defensive end flipped his commitment from Clemson to Duke just hours after opening his senior season. The in-state Blue Devils had made a furious run at Davis in July ahead of his pledge to the Tigers. Manny Diaz and co. never took their foot off the gas with the elite edge defender from down Tobacco Road.
"I have a great relationship with Duke," Davis told Rivals. "They're close to home ... I love what they're doing over there building the culture under Coach Diaz. He's had some great defenses, some great edge players in the past, and what they're telling me is the truth."
Duke hosted the 6-foot-5, 265-pound defensive end for an official visit in June.
Even after he committed out of state, Diaz, Harland Bower and the rest of the Blue Devils coaching staff continued to respectfully push for Davis.
It finally felt right for Davis after much consideration.
"We built relationships that are real," he detailed. "They respected my decision but let me know what they had to offer. They didn't rush me or force me; they built real, authentic relationships. They didn't push me away; they showed me what they had to offer."
