Ducks pick up a big one

Oxnard (Calif.) Rio Mesa four-star and Rivals250 athlete Malachi Lewis took an official visit to Arizona State this weekend, but he returned from the visit and decided to make a commitment. But it wasn't to the school he visited this weekend.
"I committed to Oregon tonight," said Lewis, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound athlete that could project at a number of positions but will play running back for the Ducks.

Lewis, who is ranked as the nation's No. 11 athlete and the No. 19 player in California, visited Arizona State, Cal, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Oregon. His Oregon visit was actually his first visit back on Dec. 1.
"Oregon was the place that I was most comfortable with," Lewis said. "It's also the place with the most opportunity to play."
When Lewis called the Oregon coaches to let them know the news, it was received really well, especially by coach Mike Bellotti.
"Coach Bellotti said he started jumping up and down," Lewis said. "I was right there with him."
Lewis was recruited by Oregon ace recruiter Steve Greatwood. He is the 27th player to commit to Oregon for the class of 2007.
