Drake emerges from talent-rich school

Even though the Galveston (Texas) Ball team didn't make the playoffs due to an eligibility issue, several of the players are working on their college futures by taking their recruiting processes head on.
One prospect that has emerged from under the radar is the 6-foot-3, 280-pound offensive guard Kelvin Drake. The Ball sleeper prospect has emerged with several offers including Arkansas State, North Texas, Sam Houston State, Toledo, Southern, Utah State, and others. More schools could be coming on soon, but Drake already has things pretty set on favorites.

"North Texas and Arkansas State are up there right now," Drake said about his favorites. "They talk to me the most and I just like the conversations I've had with my recruiting coaches."
Drake has also set up a few official visits. He'll take in Toledo this Saturday for an official visit and then see North Texas on Jan. 13.
"Toledo has been with me since the beginning, so I don't want to treat them bad by not visiting," Drake said. "I kind of want to stay close to home, so they're kind of at a disadvantage."
As a junior, Drake was a second team all-district player and after his senior season he was named as a first-team all-district selection.
Drake says that he has been told by colleges that his size is not exactly what they're looking for at the guard position.
"Coaches at bigger schools say I'm too short to play guard at a bigger program," he said. "They say my height hurt me. They're looking for the 6-foot-5 and 6-foot-6 guys. That's fine, I'll just go where I'm needed and do my best to get a spot."
It doesn't look like Drake is short of options at this point. Two other schools could be joining the mix.
"Utah and Iowa are mailing me heavily," he said. "They should come through if everything works out."
