Dozen offers for Griffey

APOPKA, Fla. - This past Friday, Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips defeated Apopka (Fla.) 32-21. The Dr. Phillips passing attack played a big role in the victory and quarterback Nick Patti's favorite target on the evening was wide receiver Trey Griffey. Griffey transferred to Dr. Phillips from Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange, so Friday's victory marked his first in his new uniform.
"First one as a Panther, it feels pretty good," Griffey said.

On the evening, Griffey had eight receptions for over 100 yards and a touchdown. He credited his summer work with Patti and his teammates for helping him to become comfortable in the offense.
"Going through a whole summer and 7-on-7's really has helped us out," Griffey said. "I think we have a pretty good connection."
Griffey's most recent offer came from Iowa State on August 1st. He has 12 total offers at this time. He said that all interested schools are on even footing at this time.
"I am open right now," Griffey said. "I am not really set on one college. I am still going to take my visits, do everything I need to do but I want to start doing that a little later on this season. I am still deciding on colleges I want to pursue. I am just going to look at a few colleges, see their campuses, stuff like that."
When it comes time to decide, Griffey said academics will play a major role in his decision.
"My mom, like every other mom, really wants me to go to a school with good academics," Griffey said. "Since I was young she has told me academics is one thing that really separates you as a player."
Griffey and Dr. Phillips will host Orlando (Fla.) Olympia on Friday.
