Downs stays committed despite trips

Devante Downs remains committed to Cal but he just returned from a trip to Arizona State which highly impressed him and he has one more trip before reaching a final decision.
"I really liked it," Downs said of ASU. "I got to meet all the coaches that I've talked to for a long time. I learned a lot about the facilities and the academics and the football program.

"I look at their success and their ranking but I don't consider it too much. I look more at the opportunities I would get if I went there to have success."
The coaches really impressed Downs, who's been committed to Cal for months but is seriously considering the Sun Devils especially after spending time with the coaches. They were nice, but not too nice, and showed that they're real people. Downs liked it.
"They're all really nice," Downs said. "They weren't overly nice where it wasn't real but they were genuine people. They were all really cool."
Downs, who plans to enroll early, has now visited Arizona State, Oregon State and Cal. The Lynnwood (Wash.) Mountlake Terrace three-star athlete plans to visit Washington State the weekend of Dec. 13-14 with Wazzu commit Marcus Griffin.
After that visit, Downs said he'll reach a final decision but Cal still is the frontrunner in his recruitment despite all the visits.
"Then it will be time to sign," Downs said.
"I still like (Cal). I'm still committed. I didn't de-commit. I like the coaches and I didn't commit for no reason. I still like them a lot."
