The Minnesota Golden Gophers are on the board with their first commit in the 2015 class, landing in-state three-star offensive tackle Bronson Dovich on Friday.
The 6-foot-5, 283-pound Dovich picked up his first Big Five Conference offers earlier this month from both Minnesota and Rutgers, but once the in-state school offered him an opportunity it was nearly a done deal.
"I was thinking about committing right on the spot, but I took a little over a week to know I was 100%," Dovich said. "When I went on the unofficial with my family a few days before the offer my parents and I left knowing that was the place to be. I could tell that both of my parents wanted me to end up there and I did as well."
Once Dovich was 100 percent that he wanted to represent the home-state school, he placed a call to the Minnesota coaches to inform them of his decision.
"I called Coach (Jerry) Kill first," Dovich said. "We had bad reception but he told me he was extremely excited and he said he can't wait for me to be a Gopher. I called Coach (Matt) Limegrover after and he said I made his week. They both were very happy."
Minnesota now goes into the summer camp season with their first commitment on board, and Dovich hopes to be the start of a big recruiting class for the Gophers.
"I'm gonna get working on some other guys to come here," Dovich said. "Hopefully I've opened the gates for others.
"I'm really excited for the future. They are going to only keep getting better and better."
