Dorton lands early SEC interest

Malik Dorton had an outstanding junior season and now the Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco defensive end is starting to get some more interest.
One of the biggest schools to reach out is Florida and although it's preliminary the 6-foot-3, 227-pound defensive end is interested in learning more about the program.

Dorton knows the basics but he has not investigated the Gators much yet since he was surprised an SEC school would come all the way out to California to recruit players.
Florida has had some success in the state in recent years and Dorton said he's definitely interested enough to keep in touch.
"It's starting to pick up a little bit more," Dorton said. "I heard from Florida the other day and I'm going to stay in contact with them a little bit more.
"I haven't really looked into it because I never thought an SEC school would come over here. It's kind of new but I'm still open to all options right now."
The 2014 standout already lists offers from Arizona State, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah and Utah State and the Bruins stand out a little bit more than the others in his recruitment.
He closely watched the Pac-12 championship game last week against Stanford and was upset the Bruins lost but definitely wants to keep the lines of communication open with the coaching staff since they're so high on his list.
"They're still sticking out even though they took a tough loss in the Pac-12 game," Dorton said.
"They're still up there. They had a good season. The coach came and turned the whole program around and I definitely like what I've seen from UCLA this year."
Michigan, Oregon, USC and Washington are four other programs showing early interest in Dorton, who finished with 51 tackles and six sacks in his junior season.
