Doolittle has been one of the most elusive players to
interview on the recruiting trail, but he took some time out with
us Sunday to talk about his official visit to Auburn this weekend.
"It went real good," said Doolittle, a member of the Rivals.com
Southeast
Top 100 team and the No. 8 strongside defensive end in the nation.
"I've been there for all the home games and everything, so I knew about
about how good the stadium was and their fans and all the tradition -- that
kind of stuff -- but this gave me a chance to spend some time with the
players. I felt like I really fit in with those guys. It was real
comfortable."
Doolittle (6-3, 260, 4.7) said the Tigers' Ronnie
Brown served as his host for the weekend, "showing me a great time."
Auburn has long been considered a strong bet to land
Doolittle, but the Tigers will have to fend off LSU (12/6), Tennessee (1/17)
and Florida (1/24).
"They're all in the mix right now," he said. "I'll
be able to tell you more after my visit to Tennessee," hinting that it may
be a battle between the home state Tigers and Vols for the driver's seat.
Doolittle played primarily on offense as a senior at
Opelika, rushing for 860 yards and 13 touchdowns. He says all of the teams
on his list have also discussed the possibility of playing fullback if he
wants to pursue that position.
"They all said I could have a shot," he said. "I
just want to play wherever I can see the field first."
