Dont overlook safety Evans

Safety Marell Evans continues to be one prospect out of Richmond (Va.) Varina in 2007 that is just starting to get recruiting looks. It's hard to imagine as the safety prospect is 6-foot-4, 200-pound and was named all-district and all-region as a junior.
"Marell is getting looks from schools including Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Maryland and others," said Varina coach Blanda Wolfe. "He is pretty open and likes all the schools that are sending him letters."

Last season Evans registered 66 tackles, seven for loss and two interceptions. He pretty much single-handedly beat Hermitage with two interceptions, two deflections and 15 tackles in just that one game.
"He's got an eye for the football and loves contact," he said. "I could see him being one of the best players around here and last season he always wanted me to have Brandon Minor face off against him, that's just the type of person he is. The other thing about him is that he has an incredible wingspan and doctors say he is going to continue to grow."
Besides being a football player, Evans also participates on the hardwood.
"He could probably play Division II only because he isn't the best shooter," he said. "He is a great competitor though, but I believe he knows that football is the place for him."
This summer Evans has plans to head to the Penn State Nike Camp and a team camp at West Virginia.
