Donovan Stiner hoping to land a few big offers before fall
Three-star safety Donovan Stiner was one of the standout defensive backs at Texas’ Under the Lights camp on Saturday night.
Stiner was one of the players in 2017 that chose to decommit from Baylor following the departure of Art Briles and the events of this past spring. His last camp before UTL also was in Austin, but he said after that he had been keeping a low profile to rest a foot injury that lingered for a few weeks.
Now that he’s back on the open market and back from injury, he’s working on getting a few more offers from some high-level offers before he makes his next commitment.
“I am looking at multiple schools, I’m just taking my time right now,” he said. “I like Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and U of H.”
IN HIS WORDS
BAYLOR
“I’m still considering them and seeing what’s happening,” he said. “But pretty much I’ve moved on.”
TEXAS
“I think I’m pretty close, I think it’s coming,” he said. “They’re going to be in my top list if they come through with an offer.”
RIVALS REACTION
Stiner already holds offers from Houston and Oklahoma State, so he’s really interested in seeing if he can build some momentum with Oklahoma and/or Texas. He said that he would like to visit Oklahoma and TCU before the end of summer, but has no firm plans to do so. He also recently picked up an offer from Tulsa, but Houston and OSU are the de facto leaders right now if the Longhorns or Sooners don’t start showing interest sooner than later.
“I was hoping to make a new commitment before the season, if not, than in the beginning of the season sometime,” he said. “I’m just waiting for some more offers and weighing out my options.”
Oklahoma would be a tougher fit for him with the number of defensive backs already committed in this class, but he should have a quicker path to playing time anyhow with the Cougars or Cowboys. He has consistently turned in stronger performances in different events as his spring has played out and was pretty successful in the numerous reps he took at Under the Lights. He has a good opportunity to up his stock this season but regardless of where he commits, he should find opportunity as a capable, long and agile safety.
