Dohertys recruitment could end suddenly

These days, Marquise Doherty avoids speaking with much certainty when it comes to his recruitment.
Of course there are some things that are set in stone. The four-star running back knows for certain that the final five schools in the running for his commitment are Oregon, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa and Louisville. He also knows he'll visit Oregon on Nov. 22 and Missouri on the first weekend of December.

After that, though, things get notably less certain.
"I would like to take all five visits," Doherty said. "But if I go on a visit and I know that's where I want to be, I won't waste my time taking the rest."
And so all unscheduled visits are in jeopardy of never taking place. It's not that Doherty has already settled on either Missouri or Oregon. It's just that he's having trouble setting dates for the other legs of his travel.
"I haven't really talked to the other schools much about officials because things get busy for coaches during the season," Doherty said. "They haven't really had time to set them up."
And so the Kansas City (Mo.) Winnetonka two-sport star is concentrated on the travel already on his agenda. He will play both baseball and football at the college of his choice, so he has a lot to process during his campus visits.
"The main thing for me is making sure I spend time with both football and baseball on the visits. With Missouri, Coach [Andy] Hill always tells me about home much the baseball coaches talk about me and all that. I feel like Mizzou is really on board with both sports.
"It's the same thing with Oregon. I like that I'll actually get to see a game at Oregon. I'm gonna spend time with baseball while they are getting ready in meeting for the game."
Doherty has set no commitment timetable. Instead, he will make a choice when the mood strikes.
