Does Illinois land Cali sleeper

The word on the street is that Concord (Calif.) De La Salle two-star wide receiver Alex Stroud (6-1, 180, 4.5) has committed to Illinois. The story goes that both Stroud and his roommate on the trip Jeff Sobol (6-3, 255, 4.8) from Herculaneum, Mo., both decided to join the Fighting Illini cause.
Stroud didn’t go to Illinois with an offer in hand, but he left with one and the Fighting Illini picked up a nice player in the bargain.

Illinois head coach Ron Turner offered Stroud a scholarship during the brunch held at his home for the recruits.
After the brunch, the players who committed announce their intentions in front of everyone in attendance.
Stroud is very athletic, aggressive and physical. He is very explosive player who can jump out of the gym as his 40-inch vertical proves.
When you land a player from De La Salle you get a team first player. Stroud firmly has bought into the De La Salle system of team first. It’s not about stats it’s about performance and doing whatever it takes to help the team.
Stroud caught 16 passes for 217 yards and one touchdown in 2003. Because DLS runs the ball so well, Stroud is a terrific blocker.
If the word on the street is true the Fighting Illini picked up a solid player in Stroud.
More on this developing story later.
