Doering talks Notre Dame

Barrington (Ill.) five-star offensive tackle prospect Dan Doering (6-foot-6, 290 pounds) was just getting out of school today when his his father Rick called to tell him that the University of Notre Dame had just fired head coach Tyrone Willingham.
"When I heard the news about Coach Willingham today from my Dad I was absolutely shocked," Doering said. "I was just leaving school when my Dad called with the news. I'm just still shocked by it all."
Doering talked about his feelings towards Tyrone Willingham and where the Irish sit right now with him.
"I just really liked Coach Willingham a lot. He is a great guy as well as a great coach. I really enjoyed my many talks with him and so did my family. I feel really bad for him and his family right now, but I also know that he'll be back coaching another team very soon."
"Coach (Greg) Mattison called me tonight and canceled my in home visit for tomorrow night as well as canceling my official visit for this weekend. I'm going to just put Notre Dame on hold for now. Coach Mattison told me that Notre Dame is still a great school and that I need to keep thinking about Notre Dame."
"I'm going to just wait and see what happens at Notre Dame like everyone else. I'm really interested to see who they hire. I'm going to see how things transpire and I might reschedule my official visit when the time comes. It's going to be hard to try and start to rebuild a new relationship with a new head coach, but we'll see how things go over the next few weeks."
Doering also hosted Iowa assistant coach Lester Erb on Sunday.
"I had a really good in home visit with Coach Erb. We basically talked about everything, and he was here for about three hours. It was nice to have him here at home. My parents and I were able to ask him some questions and we basically went over everything at Iowa. It was really a laid back visit and we really enjoyed having him in our home."
Doering is also expecting to schedule a few more college coaches soon for additional in home visits.
"Several coaches have been asking about making an in home visit. Tennessee mentioned that they will be here soon, and the Miami (Fla.) coaches also have been talking about making an in home visit as well."
Doering has already taken official visits to both Tennessee and Oklahoma, and has an official visit set for Iowa on December 10th.
