Doering shooting for a state title

Barrington, Ill. offensive tackle prospect Dan Doering (6-foot-6, 290 pounds) will be one of several Illinois football prospects who will be shooting, make that throwing for a possible state title this weekend, as Doering has qualified in the shot put for the IHSA state track and field championships in Charleston, Illinois on Friday and Saturday.
"Yes, I am pretty excited to be going down to the state meet, Dan Doering said. "There are a lot of really good shot putters so I know that there is going to be a lot of very good competition. I have heard that the state meet is an unbelievable event."

"We have 11 guys from our track team heading to state and a few football players from Barrington participating in the meet. Our Quarterback Garrett Seeger and 2 of our running backs Andre Anderson and Nick Mageria are participating in the 4x100. Andre Anderson is also competing in the long jump. We plan on leaving for the meet on Thursday and coming back home on Saturday so it should be a great time."
Doering, who has 24 scholarship offers so far this spring, talked about the amount of phone calls he's received so far during the May evaluation period. Has it gotten out of control at this point for Doering? "It hasn't been too bad. Most of the calls that I have received have been from the schools that have already offered me. The last few nights I have begun to receive calls from a number of new schools but I was not home to be able to talk to them. We still have a number of schools coming by the high school every day but they only talk to our coaches."
Will Doering be camping at all this summer? ""I do not plan to attend any camps this summer. Right after school ends we begin a very extensive weightlifting program at the high school which leads us into our summer camp in July. I was voted one of our captains this year so I feel that it is important for me to be here with our team. I am trying to schedule unofficial visits to some of the schools that have offered that I have not been to yet, so I think that it is going to be a very busy summer."
With all of his football activity planned for this summer, will Doering get a chance to get away from everything at all this summer? "Yes, Andy Laue and I and a number of our lineman are heading up to Canada for a fishing trip during the last week in June with our Dads and our line coach Steve Galovich. We are really looking forward to it. It will be a great time to relax before summer camp begins. Hopefully we'll catch some fish and we don't sink any of the boats."
Dan Doering currently has scholarship offers from Arizona, Boston College, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Nebraska, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Purdue, Tennessee, UCLA, USC and Wisconsin.
