Do Terps lead for local DE

Defensive end Darius Powell is still holding one offer from Akron, but the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder is looking for more as he recently took in junior day visits to Virginia, Maryland and Penn State.
"I liked Maryland a lot," he said. "The basketball game was great and I liked the surroundings it was real cool. It kind of persuaded me to want to go there a lot more. The academics there really surprised me, particularly how much they press on academics."

How did the trip compare to his recent visits to Penn State and Virginia?
"Penn State was very nice too," he said. "While I really didn't like Virginia that much, I would say it was fairly comparable to the Penn State visit."
Besides taking in junior day visits, Powell has recently been hearing more from Michigan, Maryland, Syracuse, Boston College, South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina.
Is he favoring any schools right now?
"I'd say I am kind of favoring Maryland just a little bit right now," he said. "But my top five would be Maryland, Penn State, North Carolina, South Carolina and Michigan."
As for future offers, Powell thinks a few are on the way.
"Clemson, Marshall, Penn State and Cincinnati have all said they are going to be offering," he said. "Penn State stands out right now amongst the schools talking offers."
Powell is also hoping to hear more from Georgia and South Carolina.
The Waldorf (Md.) Westlake product is running track and hitting the weight room this spring to prepare for combines.
As for this spring, Powell plans on heading to Michigan and Michigan State in early April for visits. He is also looking at attending the Nike Camp at Penn State.
Last season Powell recorded 68 tackles, 13 for loss, 10 sacks, three fumble recoveries and seven passes broken up.
