DL narrows focus

Chris Anderson, the Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin High School defensive lineman, said that he liked his official visit to Southern Cal. But was it enough to convince him to move 3,000 miles away from home?
“It was alright,” Anderson, who is 6-foot-3, 295 pounds, said of the visit. “I think L.A. is kind of a cool place. There’s always something to do.”

But Anderson admits his recruiting focus has been on schools much closer to home.
“I visit Florida State this Friday. Then the next week, I go to Miami. Florida State was by the house last night for a visit.”
“I wouldn’t say that I’m looking to stay closer to home or anything, but it’s just kind of what I know and everybody could see me play if I stay around here.”
South Carolina is also a player for his signature. The Gamecocks are set for a visit on Jan. 11. Michigan State has also crept into the picture, but no visit has been set.
One interesting note is that Florida, who Anderson had previously scheduled a visit to, is now off his list of possible college destinations. Anderson declined to mention why the Gators are no longer among the teams he is considering.
