The 6-foot-2, 200-pound outside linebacker earned first-team all-district honors for his play, and there is already a growing buzz surrounding the long, athletic, big framed defender from the New Orleans-area.
Saturday at the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour in New Orleans, Divinity did not disappoint. He showed exceptional lateral movement and change of direction. He was the best linebacker in coverage whether it was on a running back, a tight end, or on the slot, and at the end of the day he took home linebacker MVP honors.
"I listen to the coaches and they give me good advice," Divinity said. "What they give me I put it on the field and make it happen."
College coaches are beginning to take notice. Divinity has yet to receive much attention since he is currently a sophomore, but that is changing. UCLA is coming on strong for his talents, and plans are in the works for visits to LSU in early March and Alabama after that.
Divinity is keeping his options open when it comes to recruiting, but he admits he has grown up keeping a close eye on a few programs.
"Alabama, LSU, and Texas A&M," Divinity said. "They're good programs and I like the coaches and how they play together as a team."
For now, Divinity is focused on getting better. He was all-district, he helped the Patriots to a 10-win season and a district title, and he now holds the Linebacker MVP from the Rivals Camp Series in New Orleans. However, he has hopes for more in 2014, and he is working to make it happen.
"We're getting ready," Divinity said. "We got a new (assistant) coach, coach (Don) Cox, who was out here. We're preparing. We went to the second round of the playoffs last year and we're trying to go all the way to the (Super) Dome this year."
