Defensive tackle Shukree Barfield took an official visit to Miami this weekend. While the 'Canes weren't at the top of his list, an offer from Miami can easily sway many recruits.
"Miami offered me while I was down there," said Barfield. "That was the highlight of the trip. I'm not saying I'm going to Miami, but it's good to know I have that option. I like the area a lot down there. The football program is great and the social life is real cool."
The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive lineman from Camden, N.J. said Miami has made his final list. Who else is he considering?
"I've pretty much narrowed it to Miami, Kentucky and Rutgers," he said. "Each of those schools have offered. Kentucky has a real good coaching staff and they think that they're going to build something real good. Rutgers is close to home and they've emphasized keeping the top players in New Jersey here."
And just because most recruits will have announced their college destination by Wednesday doesn't mean Barfield is in a rush.
"I don't feel pressured to make a decision anytime soon," he said. "I don't think I'm ready to announce anything final, so I'll take my time."
