Defensive tackle Carl Howard is wanted by college coaches because of his toughness and strength up the middle. Did he end up visiting Virginia Tech this weekend?
"No, I cancelled the trip this weekend because I had to take the ACT," he said. "I've already reschedule the visit though. I'll be going to Virginia Tech on Jan. 23, so everything will work out."
How did Howard feel about the test?
"I think it went real well," said Howard. "I thought it was a lot easier than the SAT, but maybe that was just a personal thing. I think I'll know what my scores are either today or tomorrow, but I think things went really well. Since the scoring system is different than the SAT, I'm not exactly sure what I had to get. But I think I did well enough."
Howard has scheduled an official visit to Maryland, which he will take next week. That visit will be followed by trips to Michigan State, NC State and then the rescheduled Virginia Tech trip.
"I'm going to Michigan State and NC State, but the exact days slip my mind. But I know I'll be at Maryland next week."
Coaches from Clemson, Michigan State, Syracuse and Miami have come by Howard's house for in-home visits. He plans on keeping his options open until he's done with his official visits.
