Devils impress Palmetto WR

An official visit to Duke this past weekend made a big impression on Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes wide receiver Jomar Wright.
“I had a lot of fun up there,” he said. “I didn’t commit or anything, but it gave me a lot to think about. I could really see myself fitting in that environment.

“I got to sit down and talk with the offensive coordinator and the receivers coach for a long time. They made me feel like I’m the type of player their offense needs.”
A former Byrnes teammate, defensive back John Talley, served as Wright’s host for the weekend.
“That was cool,” he said. “We played football and basketball together, so we already knew each other. He’s kind of like another recruiting coach for them now.”
Coming quickly on the heels of the Duke visit was an in-home visit from Wake Forest on Monday night.
“Their running backs coach is the one who’s recruiting me,” he said. “He came down to talk to me about my visit coming up this weekend. We also talked about their philosophy, what they’re trying to accomplish. He said they’re trying to get a balanced offense, but they also want to run a lot of spread formations with four and five receivers. He told me I was the type of guy they were looking for in their offense.”
Wright also visited Kentucky in December, a school which has been labeled his leader on occasion. But the Wildcats have received a number of verbal commitments in recent weeks, and may not have scholarship room at this point.
“That’s what I heard,” he said. “It didn’t come from coach (Joker) Phillips, but he hasn’t called me in a while. I’m hoping he’ll at least call to let me know one way or another. I’m still considering them. I like them a lot.”
As a senior, Wright (6-2, 185, 4.5) had one of the most productive receiving years in South Carolina history, catching 101 passes for 1,812 yards and 18 touchdowns.
