Detroit DE picks Western Michigan

Detroit (Mich.) Cody defensive end Jarrell McKinney arrived on the summer camp scene with little fanfare, but his 6-5, 210-pound frame and obvious athletic talents quickly had college coaches buzzing. Several offers and a senior season later, McKinney has decided on his college destination.
"I verbally committed to Western Michigan," McKinney reported.

Besides Western Michigan, McKinney had also received scholarship offers from the likes of Akron and Toledo. An official visit to Kalamazoo, however, was the crucial step for the Detroit native.
"I went on a visit this past weekend," McKinney said. "They had a real nice campus, the players were cool and I liked the coaches a lot."
McKinney finished his senior season with 10 sacks, picking up all-state and all-city accolades for his play. He is also a standout basketball player at Cody and boasts 4.6 speed in the 40-yard dash.
