Detroit Cass Tech DB Xavier Goldsmith commits to CSU

Few, if any, prep programs in the United States can match the Division 1 talent production at the defensive back position that Detroit Cass Tech boasts over the last decade. On Monday one of the school’s class of 2019 defensive backs, Xavier Goldsmith, announced his plans to continue his career in the Mountain West Conference.

“I have decided to commit to Colorado State,” Goldsmith reported. “When I went down there it just felt like home. The coaches really show a lot of love, and plus they only have three corners on the roster so I could play really early.”

Goldsmith has been accumulating scholarship offers since his sophomore year. He has visited most of the programs that offered him and several that have not.

“I felt like it was the right time for me,” Goldsmith said. “I have been thinking about it for a couple months, and then I finally talked to my parents about it. I know I have another season left and anything can change, but right now I feel like this is the best decision for me going into my senior year basically stress free.”

Goldsmith visited Colorado State this past summer and plans to return in the spring. He was first offered by the Rams in June, and that offer was confirmed after coaching changes in Fort Collins took place this winter.

“Coach (Mike) Bobo had a new defensive staff come in and a new DB coach offered me," Goldsmith said. "The new DB coach, I have been talking to him for awhile. I already had a great relationship with him, and once he came there it was kind of a done deal.”

Goldsmith has already won one state title in his high school career. He is coming off a junior season in which he recorded three interceptions for the Technicians.
