Detroit ATH earns first offers at summer camps

Detroit Crockett athlete James White has been active on the 7-on-7 and combine scene this off-season, but it was not until he started attending college camps in June that the 6-1, 180-pound prospect was able to generate his first scholarship offers.
"I have Bowling Green, Toledo and Akron," White said. "I just got those not too long ago. I went to Bowling Green's Friday Night Lights Camp. I went to Akron's camp just before the Bowling Green camp and I went to the Toledo camp just before Akron.

"Then, I went to Michigan State's camp and they were talking about offering me, and so was Iowa. I didn't camp at Iowa, but they heard about me and were thinking about offering me. Cincinnati's got me on their board too."
White plans to camp with Eastern Michigan later this month, hoping to add to his offer count with that performance. He plans to take his time and earn as many offers as possible before deciding on a school, but has strong interest in at least one of the programs that have already offered.
"I like Bowling Green a lot," White said. "I like their coaching staff, their stadium and the way the people treat you down there."
White worked out at both cornerback and wide receiver for most of the schools he camped with. Bowling Green and Akron are recruiting him as a wide receiver, while the rest see him on the defensive side of the football.
White has participated with the Maximum Exposure 7-on-7 team this off-season. They are in Cleveland Thursday for the NFL 7-on-7. Last week they took home the title at the IMG Academy 7-on-7 in Bradenton, Fla.
"Every time a big receiver was making plays, I had to shut him down to win the game," White said. "In one game we played a team from Florida and their receiver was killing our slots, so I told coach I was going to grab him and when they threw him the ball to win the game I knocked it down."
