Detmer waits

Somerset (Texas) three-star quarterback Koy Detmer Jr. continues to play the waiting game when It comes to recruiting, but he has seen a couple of new schools step up their interest this spring.
"It was right there at about the start of spring football," Detmer said. "Coach (Vance) Bedford, he's the recruiter for our area, he came, and then a week or two after coach (Shawn) Watson came out and he told me he wanted me to come out to the QB Academy on 9-11. It sounds like a good opportunity to maybe pick up something. I'm feeling good about that. This is the first I've ever heard from UT since the new coaching staff.

Then Baylor, coach (Chris) Achuff, he came by this week. He said they're really interested and he said they're going to have the quarterback coach come down and watch me throw a little bit. So that's good.
In addition to the new interest he has also been keeping in touch with a few schools who have been keeping in touch from the beginning of the recruiting process.
BYU continues to keep in touch and he plans to attend the Cougars Junior day on June 13. UTSA recently stopped by Somerset; Houston's coach Travis Bush continues to keep in touch; and Colorado has also shown some attention.
There are a few schools who seem to be more interested than others and are recruiting him harder than the rest.
"Right now, probably BYU because I've been keeping in contact with coach (Jason) Beck. He came by and they're showing the most interest," Detmer said. "UTSA and then there's a few others who are on the border of showing a lot of interest but I'm not sure yet. I'm going to go to that UT camp and do my thing out there and see what happens."
Detmer also has a couple of favorites among his current list of interest college programs.
"The same ones, BYU, UTSA, I'm going to the quarterback academy at UT," Detmer said. "The coach said Gentry from New Mexico. He signed but they only have like one other offer out and it's open for whoever right now. They have interest in me so I'm hoping to go out there and do my thing and we'll see how it goes from there. Then Baylor, they were kind of out of the blue, but it was good."
This summer, Detmer plans to attend a few camps, compete in 7-on-7 with his teammates, and take a few visits. Also, if the right situation presents itself, he could see a summer time decision.
"I don't have any offers yet, but if this summer I did pick up an offer or two I would like to make a decision before the start of the season so I can get it off my mind and just play through the season," Detmer said. "If not we'll just go from there and see what happens."
