Derrick Green ready to commit

MORE GREEN: Auburn visit | Georgia visit
Richmond (Va.) Hermitage running back Derrick Green has been the subject of numerous commitment rumors recently. The nation's No. 1 back has been rumored to be close to making his decision, possibly as early as this weekend. Are the rumors true?

"No, I haven't heard those but they aren't true," said the 6-foot, 220-pounder who is ranked as the No. 13 player in the country. "I don't have a timeframe for a decision and right now I plan on taking all five of my official visits. I thought at one point it would be cool to commit at halftime or before our ESPN game this weekend against Fork Union but there's no way that would happen."
Why not?
"Coach Kane (Hermitage head coach) doesn't play like that," said Green with a laugh. "Anyone who knows him knows that wouldn't happen. Our focus is on the game and winning, it can't be about one player."
Green recently took unofficial visits to Georgia and Auburn. How did those go?
"Georgia was a good visit, I had a good time," he said. "I watched some film with the running backs coach and spent some time with coach Richt and the players. Shaq Wiggins was there and he's a Georgia commitment I met at a few events this year and talking to him was great. Georgia was everything I expected it to be -- it's beautiful and there's early playing time there and they like to run the football."
"At Auburn I got the same feeling I got the first time I was there, a really good feeling," he said. "I broke down film with coach Luper, spent more time with coach Chizik and got more comfortable with everything and everyone in my two days there. In fact I just got off the phone with coach Luper, we have a good relationship."
The rumors of a commitment have been mostly in favor of Auburn recently so is it safe to say that the Tigers are his leader right now?
"It's safe to say they will get an official visit," he laughed. "I don't have a leader, I am still taking things in. The only official visit I have scheduled is for Michigan when they host Michigan State (Oct. 19) but I'm in the process of setting up officials with Auburn and Tennessee as well."
That leaves Ole Miss, Oregon, Virginia Tech and Georgia battling for those last two officials.
"I haven't figured out where the other two will be," he said. "I still have to figure that out. But like I said I want to take all five and make sure I make the right decision. I have no plan to commit this weekend, I don't even think I will commit on a visit. The way my family and I want to handle this is to take our time and make sure of everything."
