Class of 2012 defensive end Brent Wilkerson out of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha is one of a number of top rising juniors beginning to land scholarships. The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder claims two offers to date.
"I actually got offers from Virginia as a defensive end and Delaware as a tight end," he said. "Virginia camp after their camp on June 26th and then Delaware was on July 17th.
"It's pretty good to have the offers, but I'm still trying to work out more. The Virginia offer was a surprise, the defensive end coach really liked me and when I came down for camp they knew who I was."
Wilkerson has been to Charlottesville before.
"I've been down to Virginia several times with Mike Moore," he said. "I like the coaches and campus. Coach London is a cool dude and so is the defensive end coach."
According to Wilkerson one other school is eyeing the lineman so far in Tennessee.
"They wanted me to come to camp, but I didn't go."
Is Wilkerson hoping to hear from anyone else?
"I'd like to hear from Maryland and perhaps UCLA and Pittsburgh, schools along those lines," he said. "I want a good academics school, a good foundation and a nice campus. I want coaches I can interact with."
The lineman is a versatile prospect that plays both ways for DeMatha, does he have a preference on position for the next level?
"I actually like both, tight end and defensive end," he said. "It doesn't really matter to me where I play in college."
