DeMatha High School features a load of collegiate talent in 2008. One of the many players receiving college interest is 6-foot-5, 245-pound tight end Joe Collura who posted 120-yards receiving and two touchdowns last year along with three sacks on his way to third team all-metro honors.
"I'm getting a lot of mail from Virginia Tech, Duke, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse and Michigan," he said. "Nobody has offered, but I have taken a couple visits to Duke and Maryland.
"Both of those visits were impressive and they have great facilities. Duke surprised me with the fact the graduation rate is 98% which is ridiculous. I also did talk briefly with coach Roof. Meanwhile, Maryland's facilities are state of the art and very nice."
With a variety of colleges showing interest, what does Collura want out of a program?
"I'm pretty much looking for a good education," he said. "I want to make sure I get something out of college since I know my chance at making it to the NFL is slim. I also would like to win too, so I'm looking for a good combination."
Two camps are already scheduled for Collura who plans to head to Ann Arbor and Blacksburg this summer.
