DeMatha CB is excelling in track

Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha cornerback Michael Williams has been keeping busy in the early spring as he has emerged as one of the top track athletes in the mid-Atlantic. In football, the 5-foot-11, 175-pounder still holds one scholarship offer.
"I've just been doing track," he said. "We're the No. 1 team in the nation in the 4x4 indoor and I'm ranked No. 40 in the nation in the 400 meter. I am getting some recruiting interest for track and it's something I'm interested in doing in college. I'd like to try to do both."

On the recruiting front for football, Williams holds a scholarship from Maryland.
"I'm just starting to get my highlight tape out now and colleges are getting back to me," he said. "I haven't been able to visit Maryland yet. I'm trying to make a decision about that sometime.
"I'm getting a lot of other letters from Oregon, North Carolina and Michigan as well. I'd really like to visit UNC, but I don't know when."
According to Williams, the Tar Heels are one school he's hoping to hear a lot more from in the future.
"I just like their campus overall and I've heard Chapel Hill is real nice," he said. "I like Carolina Blue and overall I just want to have an ACC school that is not that far from home."
