Ngata is widely considered to be one of the top 5 defensive line prospects in the entire country heading into the 2001 season. He has offers from over 30 schools and receives around 10 handwritten letters from college coaches per day. “I would say that Nebraska, Washington, and Oregon have been sending me the most mail,” Ngata said.
The blue-chipper out of Salt Lake City acknowledged that three schools stand out above the rest at this point in the recruiting process - Washington, Nebraska and UCLA. He still plans on taking all five visits. The other two will come from USC, Oregon, Oregon State, Texas A&M, and Michigan.
Ngata’s Highland High team starts two-a-day practices on Monday in preparation for the 2001 season. "The season is about ready to start,” Ngata said. “Our first game is on August 24.”
