Decision looming for R100 TE Upshur

It was reported last week that Rivals100 tight end Naseir Upshur would visit Florida State from July 14 to July 16 and then head to Alabama to visit on July 17. The Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Institute Charter star has a top eight and a decision date looming on August 8. These visits will surely go a long way toward helping him find the best school for him.

"I'm not going to say Florida State could land a commitment from me while I'm down there but I will be able to see where everything is at with them," said the 6-foot-2, 238-pound Upshur. "I know coach Brewster and we talk a lot about how he could make me the best. I just need to see how everything is before I make a decision. Isaac Nauta and I are real close so we talk about it sometimes. I also have a close relationship with Levonta Taylor. He's pushing hard on me to pull the trigger also.
"Alabama is a great program regardless and they'll get you to the next level," he said. "I want to check it out again. Last time I went to camp but this time it will be a cook out. I'll get an opportunity to chill out with the coaches and go through film."
Upshur is set to commit on August 8 but that won't be the end of his recruitment. His top eight schools are Alabama, Arizona State, Florida State, Michigan, Maryland, South Carolina, Temple and USC. He doesn't have any visits planned right now but there is another school Upshur is trying to get to before his decision date.
"I'll probably try to fit Arizona State in before I commit but it's not set yet," Upshur said. "Schools are still going to want me to go on my official visits even though I'll be committed. I'm still going to take them because my mom wants to see the schools too. For sure Michigan, South Carolina, Arizona State and Florida State will get official visits. I'm not sure about the last one yet."
Many people believe Michigan is leading for Upshur because two of his close friends, Ron Johnson and Brad Hawkins Jr., are committed to the Wolverines.
"They're good friends and we talk a lot," he said. "With them committing it means a lot. I know they want me to come play with them and I'm giving that some deep thought but I'm going to make a decision for myself."
Upshur participated in the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour in Baltimore in June.
