Deboskie talks about decision

We talked with Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton running back Covaughn Deboskie a week ago regarding his college decision. Deboskie told us off the record who he was choosing but wanted to make it public at the Army All-American game this coming Saturday. Unfortunately for the talented athlete, word leaked out ahead of time that Deboskie will be headed to Cal.
Deboskie, 6-0, 195 pounds is one of the premier backs in the West region and had narrowed his choices to Cal and Arizona State. He visited both schools along with Stanford but said the opportunity to play earlier at Cal was the deciding factor.

"It was a tough decision because ASU really opened my eyes this year," Deboskie said. "I loved Coach Erickson and the swagger he brought to ASU. I like how they run the football and how balanced that offense is. They play different guys and allow multiple players to handle the ball in that offense.
"The fact that it was close to home and I know they're going to be winning for awhile were also big selling points. In the end though, I just felt like I had the best chance to play and contribute early at Cal. I felt so comfortable on the trips I took and I really liked the academics as well.
"ASU is probably going to bring in three running backs this year whereas with Cal, I'll probably be the only high school back they bring in. They lose some guys like Justin Forsett and I really think I'll have a chance to see the field next season if I come in and work hard. I already signed with Cal, they have my letter of intent and I'll be enrolling in time for Spring practice so that should give me another chance to play early.
"Overall, I really enjoyed the recruiting process but I'm glad it's over. I had a chance to see some great schools and get to know some great coaches but in the end, when I weighed everything together, I just felt like I fit in the best at Cal."
