DeBoskie ready to make decision known

SAN ANTONIO - Only a handful of players will make their official announcements at Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio.

One of the more high profile players who will announce during Saturday's NBC live television broadcast is Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton running back Covaughn DeBoskie.

The 5-foot-11, 185 pound DeBoskie is down to Arizona State, Cal and Stanford. He's taken official visits to all three schools and he will enroll early to wherever he decides to go. DeBoskie said he has already informed the coaching staff of the school he will attend.

"I'll announce on NBC Saturday," DeBoskie said. "It's Arizona State, Stanford and Cal. Those are my final three and I've visited all three places. I'll enroll this month on wherever I pick.

"I've actually already informed the school that I'm going to and I'm already registered for classes and everything. I'm just waiting to make my announcement on TV."

DeBoskie gave his thoughts on all three schools and why he considered each one of them.

DeBoskie on Stanford

"With Stanford you can't go wrong with their education," DeBoskie said. "Also Coach (Jim) Harbaugh is a new coach and he's implementing a new system. He's doing everything he can to prove he can compete at the D-I level against guys like Pete Carroll and Jeff Tedford and the other schools. The atmosphere was ok, but I felt like I was in a forest, because I've never been around so many trees."

On Cal

"At Cal, they also have a lot of trees," DeBoskie said. "I have a great relationship with their running backs coach, Coach (Ron) Gould. Also I love the atmosphere there with the players and everything. Their running back situation is also kind of scarce, because they might have a hurt running back. That's why I plan on going to spring ball at whatever school I plan to go to. If I went to Cal, that would be a good place for spring ball because of the running back situation."

On ASU

"With ASU, they are in my home town and I know everything about it," DeBoskie said. "I went to all their games this year. Their running back situation is nice, with a junior and senior on their team and they really don't have anybody after that. So if I went there, I'd have a great chance to get that spot. They also have a great business program."

Getting the chance to play in the Army All-American Bowl has always been a lifelong goal for DeBoskie, so he's really looking forward to Saturday.

However, DeBoskie will not play running back in the game, he will work in more of an all-purpose role at wide receiver.

"I'm just happy to be here," DeBoskie said. "It was a main goal of mine to make this game and a lot of people didn't think it would happen. Now I made it here, so I'm just ready to show what I can do."
