DE trims list to five schools

David Gilbert, a four-star defensive end prospect from Oakland Park (Fla.) Northeast High School, has narrowed his list to five schools with an option on adding two more. Gilbert, 6-4 and 220 pounds, came to this decision today.
"I narrowed it down to five schools and they have all offered," Gilbert said. "But I am also holding out for two more schools that have not offered me yet but may soon. The five schools are Florida Atlantic, Connecticut, Kentucky, Purdue and Wisconsin. The two schools that have not offered that I hope to offer are West Virginia and Louisville.

"I came to this decision tonight and have been thinking about it for a while."
Gilbert recorded 67 tackles, nine sacks, and eight tackles for a loss in 2007. He's a member of the Rivals250.
"I like the coaches at Florida Atlantic and they are stepping up and moving up in college football. They are recruiting better. They have also offered our center, Mike Flash.
"I also like coaches at Wisconsin. Coach (Dave) Doeren and coach (Charlie) Partridge know what they are talking about. I would play outside linebacker there and I think I can play early there. Wisconsin also has top ranked academics.
"I have a real good relationship with coach (Terry) Richardson. He's a real cool cat. I have been impressed with how UConn has really stepped up their game.
"I like coach (Rick) Petri at Kentucky and they are the one SEC school I am thinking about. I am still kind of learning Kentucky but they are graduating some linemen and I will have a chance to compete there.
"I am still learning Purdue as well. I like Coach (Terrell) Williams. I know I can get a great education at Purdue."
Now things could definitely change if the Cardinals and Mountaineers step up to the plate and offer Gilbert.
"I think Louisville is close and I am still waiting on an offer letter. I have really hit it off well with coach (Bill) Miller.
"I think Doc Holiday at West Virginia is a great recruiting coordinator. They are in the Big East and I wouldn't mind playing outside linebacker in that defense.
"We see what happens. Of course I am looking at playing time and academics."
