DE More Confused Than Ever

Nick Larkin thought he had his list of college choices narrowed to a reasonable number, but the May evaluation period changed all that.
“I was looking at five or six schools, then coaches started coming through my school, about three a day,” said Larkin, a 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end for Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Ignatius. “I’m definitely confused now.”

Larkin’s list of original favorites – Virginia, Ohio State, Boston College, Notre Dame, Michigan and UCLA – has suddenly grown to more than 10, with schools such as Georgia Tech, Duke, Maryland, Wake Forest, South Carolina, Wisconsin and Northwestern now among his top choices.
All have offered scholarships with the exception of Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin and Northwestern. Larkin also has offers from Miami of Ohio, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.
Larkin intends major in business and is looking for a school with a “big-time football program” and sound academics. “That’s my No. 1 priority,” he said.
Larkin, who hopes to make a college decision before September, will continue his search by visiting South Carolina, Wake Forest and Duke in June. He’ll follow that, he said, with trips to Wisconsin, Northwestern and Boston College.
By then, he hopes he can clear up some of the confusion.
