DE Cumbie talks Illini junior day

Morris (Ill.) junior defensive end prospect Jamie Cumbie (6-foot-7, 255 pounds) made his first college junior day event last Saturday to the University of Illinois. Cumbie was one of several in-state junior football prospects who checked out the Champaign campus.
"My visit to Illinois on Saturday went really well," Cumbie said. "I really enjoyed myself at Illinois, and that basketball team is really something else. The game and the Illinois basketball team are really amazing this year."

Cumbie talked about what impressed him on his junior day visit in Champaign.
"I really liked getting a chance to talk with the coaching staff at Illinois. Ron Zook seems like a really cool guy, and he definitely has a plan for the Illini. I really feel that he's going to turn the football program around. I also got along well with the Mallory's, who are both assistant coaches at Illinois. The facilities at Illinois are really nice, and I also liked the home locker room quite a bit."
Cumbie also landed his fourth scholarship offer late last week.
"According to my head coach (Dan Darlington) the coaches from Purdue called him late last week and said that they are offering me a scholarship. I'm very excited about getting an early offer from the Boilermakers, and I'm planning to check out a junior day event at Purdue in a few weeks."
Cumbie had originally planned to make a junior day visit this Saturday to Northwestern, but has since changed his travel plans.
"I feel bad that I won't make the Northwestern junior day this Saturday, but John Dergo is wrestling downstate this weekend and I really want to go and support him. I know that a bunch of guys from the team and my school are planning to be there. I'm still very interested in Northwestern and I'm hoping to make another junior day event there soon."
"The following weekend I'll be going to junior days at both Purdue and Notre Dame."
