Dallas Jesuit weakside defensive end Sean Carney knew that he was already highly recruited, but when the phone continued to ring and ring after September 1, to say he was surprised would be an understatement.
“I was shocked actually,” Carney said.

“I got a ton of calls after September 1. I got calls from schools that I was really surprised to hear from.”
Such as?
“I got calls from Colorado, Maryland and Iowa State,” he said.
“I was surprised by that a whole lot. I already knew that Baylor liked me since they offered me, and I also had offers from Wyoming, Louisiana Monroe and SMU. But to have people like CU, Iowa State and Maryland call you, that’s really exciting.”
Carney earned most valuable player honors on his team as a junior. He’s a 6-foot-2, 233-pound pass-rush specialist. He has a 4.5-second time in the shuttle and is already qualified with a 3.1 grade-point average and a 1,070 on the SAT.
