Wilson (N.C.) Beddingfield defensive end Everette Brown is busy preparing for the upcoming season and putting the recruiting process on the back burner for a while. How is recruiting going?
Brown, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound standout along the defensive front, will get an early jump on the season as his squad will get things going early playing North Lenoir in the Endowment Kickoff Classic in less than two weeks from now.
"We’re just hoping to improve on last season’s 9-4 record and bring home a county and conference titles,” explained Brown. “I don’t really have any personal goals outside of staying healthy and just getting my body prepared for play at the Division I level next year.”
While many schools have expressed interest in Brown contributing his first year in college, the idea of taking a redshirt or not is something for him to consider.
“Florida State, Miami, and North Carolina State have expressed interest in me taking a redshirt and letting my body have another year to develop before possibly becoming a four-year starter,” admitted Brown. “Everyone else has been pretty open to the idea of me playing right away. I’m really undecided as to which I prefer, I can see the benefits of going either route.”
In addition to FSU, Miami and NC State, Brown is interested in North Carolina, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Brown is taking his time with the process and is in hurry to narrow his list.
“I’d like to start thinking about getting down to five schools sometime near the end of the regular season,” said Brown. “It’s around that time that I’d like to announce where I’ll take my official visits. I don’t plan to decide until sometime approaching signing day.”
While Brown lists no favorites at this moment, he does have an idea of what he’s looking for in a school.
“The business school is real important to me since that’s what I’m looking to study,” Brown explained. “Beyond that, it’s going to be a gut feeling when I’m on campus as to what I’m looking for in terms of atmosphere.”
