"I'm going to commit on September 7," Smith explained. "I already know where I'm going. I still might take officials but I'm going to go ahead and commit on (September) 7."
Michigan State, South Carolina, Temple, Toledo and West Virginia were the five schools that had offered Smith. Those were the schools he chose from.
"Michigan State was the Big Ten champ and all their defensive backs made all-Big Ten," he noted.
"South Carolina was the SEC East champs. They're an up-and-coming program and might possibly be a powerhouse in the future.
"Temple is close to home and they had a couple of players that got drafted. They had a safety that's going to the Eagles.
"Toledo is in the MAC and they have a nice squad. The coach is real good.
"West Virginia is another up and coming school, too. They could possibly be the Big East champs this coming year if they stick to it."
Smith is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com. He is ranked the No. 20 safety in the nation.
