DB Smalls waiting on score

January will be a busy month for Richmond (Va.) Huguenot defensive back Sean Smalls.
"I'm going to start taking my official visits then," said the 6-foot-0, 183-pound prospect.

"I want to look at UCLA, Michigan, Michigan State, West Virginia and Ohio State. I'm not sure right now how many I will take. I don't have any dates set, but I will do that soon."
Small, who hasn't taken any official visits as of yet, had a busy senior season with more than 40 tackles while breaking up 10 passes. The unanimous first team all-district cornerback had 16 interceptions in his career. As a receiver, Smalls had 21 catches for 326 yards and two touchdowns to go along with a 80-yard punt return for a touchdown.
"Taking the official visits will help a lot because I'll get a better feel for the schools and what they are like," Smalls said. "I need to see that for myself. Getting those set up will be big.
"I really don't have a leader now. I don't know if I will take all the visits, but I do want to take some to have something to compare it with. I'm still looking."
What will Smalls look for in the school he selects?
"I'm going to look for a place I feel comfortable with good academics and a good coaching staff," Smalls said. "I would like a place I could play earlier and maybe come right in and play."
Smalls still hasn't qualified academically and is waiting for his SAT score back so he can take his visits. He took the test on Dec. 4. His offers from Michigan and Ohio State are conditional based on his qualifying and his prospects could be limited as teams begin to fill their classes.
