DB Herring hungry for more offers

Melbourne (Fl.) Holy Trinity Academy defensive back Ray Herring currently holds offers from five schools in hand, but is still awaiting the attention from some of the in state powers.
Georgia Tech, Maryland, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Pittsburgh have all offered the 5-foot-10, 187-pound safety, but Herring is hoping for offers to come in from Miami, Florida, and Virginia Tech.

“If I were choosing schools today to make official visits too, those three and Notre Dame would get four of the five,” admitted Herring. “I like those schools the most so far. I’m hearing a lot from the three that haven’t offered me yet, so I’m optimistic that it’s only a matter of time.”
What about those four schools has caught the attention of the Florida standout?
“Miami’s tradition of getting players to the next level is important to consider. They prepare you to play in the NFL,” said Herring. “Notre Dame does much of the same and plays all of their games on television, so the exposure is good. Florida and Virginia Tech are both programs that I’ve followed for some time now, especially the Gators. I’ve liked them since I was a kid.”
Herring has earned all-state honors each of the past three seasons, a dubious distinction considering the depth of talent that hails from the state of Florida. What about Ray’s game has been so attractive to all-state voters?
“I can play both the run and the pass very well,” Herring said. “I feel I can be excellent in coverage as well as being a hard-hitting last line of defense against the run. That’s the best part of my game, I love to hit.”
Herring will camp at Florida and Miami this summer. Plans are also in the works to possibly add another camp or two to some of the other schools on his list.
