DB choose Illini

Illinois has been one of the biggest surprises of the 2006 recruiting year as Ron Zook has proven to be a top recruiter no matter what program he's with. Their latest commitment is one of the top players in the state of Maryland and adds to an already impressive class.
"Travon committed to Illinois," said Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt head coach Rick Houchens of safety Travon Bellamy. "He has cancelled his visits to Kansas State, Temple and Akron."

Bellamy, a 6-foot-0, 178-pounder who could also play cornerback, also had an offer from North Carolina but felt that Illinois was the best fit.
"He felt comfortable there," said Houchens. "It was where he wanted to be. He's known his recruiting coach (Mike Locksley) for awhile now and likes the opportunity at Illinois."
Bellamy is the 15th player ranked three stars or more in the Illinois recruiting class and the first big pickup from Maryland, an area Locksley was known for recruiting well when he was at Maryland and Florida previously.
He is the fourth defensive back in this class for Illinois.
